The racing career of Antti Buri started with an impressive and mature season driving in the Rally Sprint Junior Championship in his home country of Finland behind the wheel of a VW Polo. Before his competitive debut Antti learnt his craft driving on the winter ice near his family home in the very same car,the countless hours spent learning the essence of car control helped to mould Antti into the talented young driver he is today. Before his full time switch to racing cars Antti had a succesful and promising six years playing professional junior ice hockey for his local city team,TPS, in Turku. At the same time as competing for his team Antti also showed brilliance behind the handlebars of a Trails bike from a young age, again helping him gain a full conception of vehicle control over many terrains. The winning ways soon came naturally to Antti with multiple victorys in his first season when he switched to the more competitive national V1600 Rally Sprint class. These victories came on a multitude of surfaces but Antti showed real flair and raw pace on tarmac,. this aptitude for on the limit tarmac driving indicated that the next logical step in Anttis career was to switch to a more circuit based racing series.
Therefore in 2007 he switched his attention to single seater formula racing when he drove in both the Finnish and NEZ Formula Ford Championships behind the wheel of an ex-Valle Mäkelä Van Diemen. In just his first year behind the wheel of a single seater Antti showed great promise by finishing in a respectable 7th position in the Finnish championship and 6th in the NEZ championship. In 2008 Antti switched to a full assault on the championship and was going strongly on 2nd place in championship before a series of technical problems hanpered his title assault and saw him fall back to 4th place as the season closed. However the year had indicated Anttis capacity to learn and adapt to different racing series and also highlighted his talent and willingness to win behind the wheel of a single seater. The strong showing prompted Antti and his LMS Racing Team to travel to the historic Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch to race in the competitive Zetec category. After a hard fought final Antti finished this prestigious event on the second step of the podium after crossing the line glued to the gearbox of the eventual winner.
In 2009 it was time to switch to a more competitive championship with a switch to the MSA British Formula Ford Championship with his LMS Racing team. This also brought a switch a chassis and engine for Antti with the new M-Tec Chassis and Scholar Duractec engine. With almost no knowledge and experience of British circuits Antti got stuck straight into the racing with some sterling drives for a driver not only new to the championship but also the country. The underdeveloped nature of the new chassis soon began the thwart Anttis progression so the decition was madesee out the remainder of the season behind the wheel of an Enigma Motorsport Mygale. The switch of chassis soon got the seal of approval from Antti allowing him to concentrate on racing with and improvement in race pace almost instant. The year ended again at the Formula Ford festival with Antti racing hard all weekend to an impressive 13th place in the Final. |
