Podium finish for Buri at Snetterton
Norfolk was the scene of the third round of the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain, with the Snetterton circuit hosting the trio of races. Finnish racer Antti Buri was eager to get back on track after a strong performance just a few weeks ago.
Saturday saw the action begin with qualifying, and after a steady session Antti secured the fifth spot on the grid for race one. Eager to enhance his championship charge, the LMS Racing driver lined up for the opening race of the weekend, prepared and ready for action.
As race one got underway, Antti fired himself through the pack to be running third in no time at all. Despite holding the position against the strength of his rivals, he slipped to fourth place, which he held until the chequered flag.
Sunday morning arrived and so did the second race of the weekend. With his second attempt at grasping further success ahead of him, Antti lined up fourth on the grid as he readied himself for the off.
As the lights went out Antti made his attack on the field. By the end of the opening tour he was holding second place, until tyre issues pushed him down the order. After a tough 18 minute race the 22 year old managed to hold on to steal seventh place as he swept passed the chequered flag.
After a challenging weekend so far, Antti hoped more success would come in race three. The team took a big risk beforehand, as they changed everything on the car to see if that would help their task for victory.
Again starting in fourth place, the youngster lined up, ready for action for the third time. A tough fight came his way, and after running as high as second for sometime Antti eventually completed his weekend with a podium finish in third.
Glancing back over the three races, Antti said: “It wasn’t the best weekend as we struggled at times with different things, but to finish it off with a podium finish was great.”
Antti will next be racing at Brands Hatch in Kent over the weekend of 18-19th June. The weekend will see the fourth round of the British Formula Ford Championship, as well as acting as one round of the Formula Ford Eurocup Championship.
Looking ahead to the next round, Antti said: “Brands Hatch is an awesome track, and it’s also the first round of the Formula Ford Eurocup so we’re hoping to do well.”
